Kisii Woman Representative Dorice Aburi has urged various stakeholders to support people with disabilities through socio-economic programmes.

Speaking at her event dubbed “Donya Charity Mission” at Kerina Special School in Kisii South Sub County, Mrs Aburi encouraged the parents to register their children with disabilities so that they can benefit from PWDs initiatives funded by her office.

“My office is open to everyone and I urge parents to take advantage of the same so that we can address the challenges facing people with disabilities including providing aid to facilitate their access to education,” she said.

The Woman Representative also donated Sh 200,000 to Kerina Special School and distributed over 80 tricycles and wheelchairs to families in need through the support of well-wishes during the event.

Aburi noted the tricycles and bicycles will aid the mobility of persons with disabilities and enable them to go about their day-to-day activities with ease.

She called upon the local leaders and well-wishers to be on the forefront in providing programmes that uplift people with disabilities.

Further, the Woman Rep urged the political leaders to embrace public participation to understand and address some of the challenges faced by the residents of Kisii including poor road infrastructure, lack of electricity and inadequate supply of water.

Speaking at the same event, Businessman Kevin Aruasa lauded the Woman Rep for the initiative and pledged to rally other businessmen and women to support people living with disabilities.

According to Aruasa, stigmatisation had played a key role in preventing PWDs from getting assistance so that they can improve their livelihoods.

“If you have anyone living with a disability, this is your chance to bring them out so that they can be helped. Let us stop the stigma,” he said.
