Veteran TV Journalist Rita Tinina has died.
Tinina who has been working with Nation Media Group’s NTV was confirmed dead on Sunday, March 17, 2024.
According to police reports quoted by multiple mainstream media, the TV journalist’s lifeless body was discovered at her apartment in Kileleshwa, Nairobi, early this morning.
The Star reports that Rita Tinina was to be on duty this morning but her failure to report to work promoted managers to inquire about her whereabouts.
It is at this moment that she was discovered dead.
At the time of publishing this article, the cause of her death had not yet been known.
Police have since launched a probe to ascertain the circumstances under which the veteran journalist died.
Messages of condolences have already started streaming on various social media pages.
Former TV Journalist Linda Ogutu who once worked with Tinina shared her condolence message on X.
She said Rita played a key role in moulding her journalism career.
“I am who I am because I stood on her shoulders while at NTV. My T9. Go well my darling. Rita Tinina, the hand that held mine and never let go. I am broken….Rest mami,” Linda Ogutu said in the post.
Citizen TV sports anchor Mike Okinyi on his part described Rita’s death reports as shocking.
“To the @ntvkenya family and the Media fraternity, poleni for the loss of @RitaTinina . Worked with her at NTV Many moons ago. This is shocking….” Okinyi said.
A look at the journalist’s LinkedIn shows that she had a Bachelor of Arts in Communication/Media Studies from the University of Nairobi.
She rejoined NTV in October 2023, after previously moving to Standard Media Group’s KTN.
Rita Tinina has been in Kenya’s media industry for the last 10 years.
