The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced the closure of the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway at Timboroa market.

KeNHA in a statement on Thursday, May 2, 2024, said the decision follows the destruction of part of the road by stormwater which has left a section of the road exhibiting signs of possible collapse.

“The authority cautions road users against any attempts to use this section of the road in the interest of their safety,” it said in part of the statement.

However, KeNHA said motorists have since been rerouted to diversion within the Timboroa area.

It asked all road users to exercise caution, avoid overlapping and follow directions from traffic marshals so as to to ensure free flow of traffic.

“Further to our update on the closure of the A8 road at Timboroa, we wish to advise motorists to use the following alternative routes: 1. Nakuru-Eldama Ravine-Eldoret 2. Mau Summit – Kisumu. The Authority assures motorists that it is working round the clock to restore traffic flow,” it noted in another update.

Meanwhile, the agency said it remains committed to ensuring seamless connectivity to facilitate safe passage of goods and services.

On Wednesday evening, KeNHA has also announced the closure of Kamulu – Kangundo Roadt at Joska area following floods occasioned by heavy downpours upstream.

It provided alternative route for road users which include the Joska – Koma – Kaloleni – Mua Interchange – Cabanas – Ruai – Kamulu for the Joska – Kamulu bound traffic and Kamulu – Ruai – Cabanas – Mua Interchange – Kaloneni – Joska Route for Kamulu – Joska bound traffic.

Earlier, KeNHA reopened the Thika Superhighway which had been closed at Kahawa Sukari drift.

“The Kenya Highways Authority is pleased to inform the public that the Thika Superhighway at the Kahawa Sukari drift between Kahawa Barracks and Kenyatta University is now open for Thika bound traffic,” KeNHA Director General Kung’u Ndung’u said in a statement.

“The previous temporary closure due to flooding has been lifted and road users can now access this section safely,” it added.
