Former Nandi Hills Member of Parliament (MP) Alfred Keter has revealed the nitty-gritties of his encounter with Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
Keter was summoned back to the DCI on Monday, following his dramatic arrest and subsequent release on Sunday. He was arrested in Nairobi in the company of his wife and children on their way from church, and released hours later.
Addressing the press after appearing at the DCI on Monday, the former legislature said DCI officers wanted to know his relationship with retired President, Uhuru Kenyatta.
Kenyatta retired in 2022 after serving fortwo terms. President William Ruto was his deputy for the ten years he was in office, but they are seemingly not ‘seeing eye to eye’ after Kenyatta elected to back Azimio leader Raila Odinga, instead of Ruto for the 2022 presidential contest.
According to Keter, he was also questioned about his relationship with Deputy President, Rigathi Gacahagua.
“They asked me about my relationship with Uhuru Kenyatta and the current deputy president…and issues to do with arms from Congo,” he stated.
“Don’t intimidate us into silence, we know the issue is all about the concerns being raised by Kenyans on finance bill, cost of living and the many promises they made. We did not make them to make those promises but the problem with them is that they always lie, we are not the problem,” added Keter, who was accompanied by his lawyers.
Upon his arrest, police said they were investigating claims of arms trafficking by the outspoken politician.
“Contrary to the misinformation circulating on social media on alleged abduction of Hon Alfred Keter by unknown men, this is to confirm that Hon Keter was arrested earlier today by NPS Officers for Conspiracy to Traffic Firearms and Incitement to Violence,” said the National Police Service (NPS) in a statement.
He was booked at Kamukunji Police Station, before being released after public outcry over the manner of his arrest.
