A family in Tabaita village in Bureti Sub-County within Kericho County is still trying to come to terms with the death of their loved one, who committed suicide by hanging with a sisal rope four days ago.
In an interview with KNA at the home of the deceased, his distraught wife Irene Mutai, 36, said her late husband identified as Wesley Mutai, 41, was a hardworking man who loved his family dearly and did not have any signs of stress that could have caused him to take his own life.
Confirming the incident, area Chief Joseph Maritim said the deceased body was found hanging from a tree situated a few metres from his stone house by young children who rushed to the deceased homestead and reported the matter to his brother Peter Mutai.
“The deceased body was found hanging from a tree situated a few metres from his homestead at around 8am by young children, who went back to his home and met the deceased brother, who was dumfounded on receiving the news that his brother had hanged himself,” said Chief Maritim.
No suicide note was found on the deceased who was a father of seven children with the eldest aged 19 years and the youngest four months old, added the chief.
A workmate to the deceased, Allego Asema told KNA that the late Mutai used to work as a mechanic at a local garage situated in Sotik trading centre, Bomet County and that he had no conflict with his co-workers and was equally shocked that he took his own life.
The body of the deceased is lying at Kapkatet sub-county hospital mortuary and he will be laid to rest on 30 April 2024, even as the family continues to make burial plans.
