Moranga Morekwa is dead.
Until his demise on Monday, April 1st 2024, he was the Mbita Deputy County Commissioner (DCC), in Homebay County.
His body was found in his official residence in Mbita town.
According to Homabay County Commissioner Moses Lilan, his death came few days after leading security officers in a crackdown against manufacture and consumption of illicit brew within his area of jurisdiction.
Lilian said the fallen National Government Administration Officer (NGAO), did not exhibit any signs of illiness.
“Morekwa showed no signs of sickness and nobody knew he would die. Just last Friday, they raided alcohol outlets to get rid of illicit brew and unlicensed bars,” said the County Commissioner.
He however said that Morekwa resumed duty only two weeks ago, after recovering from sickness.
“He regained his health and resumed his official duties as usual. Unfortunately, his death was sudden.”
“His contributions to the fight against illicit brews made an indelible mark in the county. I pass my condolences to his family,” he added.
The body was moved to Kirindo MED 25 mortuary in Kirindo, Suba North as the government facilitates the transfer of the body to Nairobi in line with his family’s wish.
“The family requested us to transfer the body to Nairobi. We are making all possible arrangements and we are going to transfer the body to allow the family to start making burial arrangements,” he stated.
He hailed from Kisii County. Morekwa was transferred to Mbita in June, 2023 after serving as a DCC in Tana North and Kajiado West subcounties.
His death comes over a week after the demise of Lamu County Commissioner Louis Rono.
Rono died on 21st March, 2024 after a short illiness. He had served the government for 27 years.
On Monday last week, Cabinet Secretary (CS) for interior Kithure Kindiki visited his family in Bureti, Kericho County. The CS pledged full government support to his family.
