Joseph Mwenda alias DJ Joe Mfalme will remain in police custody for the next two weeks.

This is after a Kibera court on Monday allowed the application to have Joe and six other suspects detained for 14 days, in connection to the attack of a police officer.

The popular disc jockey is being held alongside six others, in connection to the assault of Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officer Felix Kelian on March 16, 2024. The officer died on March 21.

Allan Ochieng, Eric Kariuki Gathua, Simon Wambugu Wanjiru, Khadija Abdi Wako, Sammy Cheruiyot Rotich and Agnes Kerubo Mogoiare are the other suspects.

Magistrate Margaret Murage directed that the DJ be detained at Muthangari, together with Eric Gathua and Simon Wanjiru.

Allan Ochieng will be detained at the Kabete police while the three police officers Khadija Abdi Wako, Sammy Rotich and Agnes Mogoi will be detained at Riruta station. The matter will be mentioned on April 8.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP), had requested the court to detain the suspects for 21 days, as investigations into the matter continue.

DJ Joe Mfalme, his bouncer, driver, photographer and a lady were reportedly driving home at around 4am after performing at the Kikuyu club on Saturday, 16th March, when the DCI officer allegedly hit the DJ’s car from the rear.

It is alleged that before the case was solved by traffic officers from Kikuyu Police Station, the DJ and his crew reportedly attacked Kelian.

When the three police officers arrived at the scene, they allegedly arrested Kelian and took him to Kikuyu Police Station.

Mwenda and his team joined them at the police station, but were later allowed to leave without recording a statement.

The DCI officer allegedly complained of abdominal pains. He was first rushed to the Lang’ata Hospital before being referred to Nairobi West Hospital where he died.
