Prominent lawyer Donald Kipkoir has hit out at Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja.
Kipkorir claims Sakaja is out to intimidate him with defamation suit threats.
In a post on his verified X handle, the Senior Counsel noted that days of intimidating people using defamation claims are long gone.
He noted that his lawyer will take the Nairobi County boss through a constitutional master class.
According to Donald Kipkorir, threats and intimidation have no place in Nairobi City County.
“Someone should tell Nairobi Governor Sakaja Arthur Johnson that Nairobi is not a village where you can intimidate,” the lawyer said.
“Threat of defamation suits to intimidate are long gone with Constitutional wind! My lawyer @pwanyama will take the Governor through Constitutional Masterclass!” he added.
He made the sentiments while sharing a hard-hitting letter addressed to the county boss. The letter is in response to an earlier one written by Sakaja, threatening to initiate a defamation suit against him.
“I am in receipt of your demand letter dated June 12, 2024, on behalf of H.E Johnson Sakaja, and state that your client cannot sustain a claim in defamation,” Kipkorir said in a letter addressed to Sakaja’s lawyer Duncan Oketch.
The Nairobi County boss had warned the lawyer of the legal suit in regard to claims he made as far as the construction of high-rise buildings in Nairobi is concerned.
A defamation suit warning had a few months ago also been issued to activist Jerotich Seii.
Seii, reacting to the latest development said there is a need for Sakaja’s lawyers to be investigated.
“It looks like Okatch & Partners is Governor Sakaja’s preferred attack team,” the activist said.
“While my Counsel, Julie Soweto, and @DonaldBKipkorir ‘s Counsel, Peter Wanyama deal with these lawsuits, we need to investigate whether OUR County 047 funds are being used to pay Okatch & Partners to litigate Sakaja’s personal agenda against Nairobians who call him out. In any case, it appears on the list of Nairobi County law firms that have received 100s of millions of Shillings,” she added.
