Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has asked for forgiveness from former first lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta.

Speaking on Monday, the DP admitted that some of the utterances directed at the former first lady during the 2022 general election campaign period were unacceptable.

Mama Ngina was among the individuals that Kenya Kwanza politicians targeted during the headed Presidential campaigns.

But according to the second in command some of the statements lack respect.

“2022 politics had become so dirty. It had reached a point where we had lacked respect, hurtling insults to Mama Ngina,” Gachagua said.

He further said he would not wish such a situation to reoccur, especially for the Mount Kenya region in the future.

“I wouldn’t again like that Mount Kenya community to get to that point of lacking respect to our leaders. I would like to ask for forgiveness from Mama Ngina,” Gachagua said.

Mama Ngina was among the individuals allied to the Azimio coalition that Kenya Kwanza leaders trailed their attacks at.

Some of the attacks went to being personal against the former first family.

At the time, Mama Ngina was perceived to be allied to Azimio on the basis of former President Uhuru Kenyatta supporting opposition leader Raila Odinga.

But despite the attacks and insults, the former first lady did not respond to them.

The attacks proceeded beyond the 2022 general election and was at time accused of funding the anti-government protests.

Her Northlands farm was also attacked during the height of the protests in what was then described we s retaliation to the Azimio protests.
