DP Gachagua visits Uasin Gishu amid claims of fallout with Ruto

By Patricia Mollyne Mataga

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua will be spending his weekend in Uasin Gishu County.

The DP touched down at the Eldoret International Airport on Friday, May 24, 2024, evening and was received by a host of local leaders, among them Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim and Senator Jackson Mandago.

“Karibu Sana Naibu Rais H.E. Rigathi Gachagua, EGH We are delighted to welcome you to our county for a series of transformative development initiatives,” Goverbor Bii posted on his verified X handle.

The DP is expected to attend several public events across the country on Saturday and Sunday.

One of the key events he is expected to attend is the episcopal ordination of Monsignor John Kiplimo Lelei as the Eldoret Catholic Diocese auxiliary Bishop.

The event will be held at Mother of Apostle Seminary Grounds.

The second in command is also expected to attend a fundraiser at a church in Kesses Constituency.

DP Gachagua’s visit to Uasin Gishu County comes at a time when there have been claims that all was not well between him and President William Ruto.

Some of his allies have also accused individuals close to the Head of State of plotting to undermine and frustrate the DP.

But on Friday, some of the key Ruto allies took to their social media pages to welcome Gachagua.

One of them is Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi. Although he was not among the leaders that received the DP at the airport he posted a message on his social media pages.

“I welcome Deputy President H.E. @rigathi, EGH to our great county of Uasin Gishu as he plans to tour the county from today. Karibu sana Riggy G,” Sudi posted on X.

Last week, Mount Kenya leaders allied to the DP warned that they will not entertain any attempts to frustrate Gachagua.

Some even claim the plot is being hatched by young leaders from both the vote-rich region and the Rift Valley.

“Disrespect to Gachagua is disrespect to the mountain, and vice versa. Those trying to bring bad blood between the president and his deputy, we are warning you,” said Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga.
