Over 800 households affected by floods in Kitengela Kajiado County have received food donations and household items courtesy of the national government, the Chandaria Foundation, and Aga Khan University Hospital.
The donation was channeled through the Office of the First Lady Mrs Rachel Ruto who delivered the relief food and other items to the affected families yesterday.
The First Lady reiterated the National Government’s commitment to resettling Kenyans affected by the ongoing floods across the country.
She noted that the rains had displaced many people leaving them without food and shelter and called on other well-wishers to chip in and assist those affected in whichever way.“We are aware that the ongoing rains have affected many families and we are working to ensure that those affected receive food and shelter,” said Mrs. Ruto.
Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku called on residents living in lowlands that are prone to floods to move to safer areas.
Ole Lenku said the heavy rains had cut off roads and washed away bridges in many parts of the county with Magadi ward being the worst affected. He thanked the National Government for the quick response in supporting Kenyans whose roads have been cut off by floods in Magadi area“The rains have affected many families with bridges being washed away is some places like Magadi, however through the support of the national and county governments we have been able to reach those affected,” he said.
Other leaders present at the event include Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of East African Community, ASALs, and Regional Development Peninah Malonza, Kajiado East Legislator Kakuta Mai Mai, Nominated Senator Peris Tobiko and Members of the Kajiado County Assembly.
