Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has told off political leaders from North Eastern and Coast region who recently criticized his decision to call for the resignation of NIS boss Noordin Haji.
Gachagua last week asked Haji to tender his resignation, accusing him of failing to provide the government intelligence in relation to the anti-tax protests.
He argued that had the National Intelligence Service (NIS) done it’s work, security agencies would have prepared adequately.
However, the sentiments did not sit well with some North Eastern leaders where the NIS boss comes from.In a media briefing last week, the legislators led by Farah Maalim threatened to initiate the DP impeachment.
But in his response, the second in command claimed the said leaders were never on government hence have no moral authority to lecture him.
“Walikuwa wanakutana uko, hawakupigia rais kura na wanataka kusomea mimi. Mimi ndio mtu nilikuwa na rais na nilijua anaweza. Nyinyi mlikuwa pande ile, mlikuwa mnasema rais awezi na kumtukana. Sasa mumekuja juzi na mnataka kutoke nje nyi mkuwe ndani,” DP Gachagua said.
“Sasa wanakuja mpaka wantaka kuingia kwa bedroom. Wakae kwa verandah and understand how everything works. Sisi tunakaribisha kila mtu,” he added.
The NIS boss is her to respond to accusations leveled against him by the DP who had also claimed the agency’s operations had been crippled.
President Ruto appointed Haji to take over the NIS leadership after completing his tenure as the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
Before his appointment to head the DPP, Haji was already serving at the intelligence organisation.
