A multi-agency security team are in pursuit of three individuals suspected to be members of the terror group – Al-Shabaab.
The three managed to escape following an intelligence-led operation in an Al-Shabaab base in Alango, Garrisa County.
According to a post by the Anti-terrorism Policing Unit, the base was harbouring IED experts.During the operation, several items used in making the Improvised Explosive Devices were recovered.
Also found at the base is an AK-47 riffle and two magazines porches.
“Multi-Agency Security Team conducted intelligence led operation on #AlShabaab base at Alango, #Garissa, harbouring Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) experts,” the anti-terror unit said in an update on Sunday.
“During the successful operation, the Security team recovered IEDs making materials, AK47 riffle, 2 magazines, porches and assorted foodstuffs,” it added.
The three suspects however managed to escape.
Police believe they sustained serious injured following the operationThey are urging members of the public to report any suspected members of terrorists for appropriate action to be taken.
“The Multi-Agency Security Teams are in hot pursuit of three (3) AlShabaab terrorists who escaped with serious injuries. Security agencies are appealing to Garissa residents to report any suspected terrorists for action to make the country safe and secure,” the agency said.
Meanwhile, police say the multi-agehcy security team continues to deal with terrorism threat in all its manifestations.
Areas bordering Somalia in Northern part of Kenya and coast region has faced terror attacks in the last few weeks.
The attacks are believed to be staged and executed by Al-Shabaab who have taken control of several parts of Somalia.
Kenyan military men and women are part of an African Union team in Somalia in an effort aimed at dealing with the terror group responsible for several attacks in the country.
