Government to translate Raila’s CV in 6 languages

By Patricia Mollyne Mataga

The government is set to step up its efforts to campaign for opposition leader Raila Odinga.

Raila is seeking to be the next African Union Commission chairperson.

He has already secured the endorsement of the government.

On Wednesday, the former Prime Minister jointly addressed a media briefing with the Prime Cabinet Secretary who is also the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs Musalia Mudavadi.

During the media briefing, Mudavadi revealed that the government plans to translate Raila’s Curriculum Vitae into six languages.

This is part of the government’s strategy to ensure his candidacy secures the majority support from African countries.

“Overall, the campaigns are led by the state with highly experienced and knowledgeable officers,” Mudavadi said.

“The team is preparing an application document together with transitions of the resume into six AU languages,” he added.

The languages that the CV will be translated into include French, English, Swahili, Arabic, Portuguese and Spanish.

Mudavadi said the translated CVs are expected to be ready by the end of this month and later be submitted to the African Union.

In addition, the Prime CS said the government has already developed a campaign strategy that includes identifying opportunities, challenges and risks that Raila is likely to face for his bid for the AUC chairperson seat.

Already a campaign secretariat has been set up and will play a key role in pushing the candidacy of the ODM leader.

The secretariat, Mudavadi said, is made up of highly experienced and knowledgeable individuals.

An AUC chairperson is elected by the Assembly for a four-year term, renewable once.

Raila will be facing at least three other candidates in the race, among them former Djibouti Foreign Minister Mahamoud Ali Youssouf and former Seychelles Vice-President Vincent Merit.

The new office holder will be selected at the 38th AU summit to be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in February 2025.
