Governor Anne Waiguru Joins DP Ruto’s UDA

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, is defecting to Deputy President William Ruto-linked United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

While addressing members of the public from her county, the governor asked Kenyans which party they think she should vie in 2022 with, and in unison they responded, UDA.

Waiguru, who recently conceded that defending her seat on a Jubilee Party ticket will be an uphill task, stated that she shall traverse the county and listen to the pleas of constituents.

“Mlisikia nikisema nitaskiza watu wa Kirinyaga. Na nikasema nitafanya vile watu wa Kirinyaga watasema. Mimi nitawauliza dada na ndugu zangu, kwa sababu naskia mumesema mtanirudisha. Mnataka nikuje na chama gani huku Kirinyaga?” She posed.

As members of the public chanted UDA in response, she said, “Mimi nitasema sio mimi nilisema, vile wananchi wanasema, hiyo ndio njia tutafuata, sivyo?”

She is expected to face off against Kirinyaga Woman Representative Wangui Ngirici who has since declared her interest in the gubernatorial seat.

Waiguru has recently stated that she is determied to retain her seat despite receiving multiple offers from presidential candidates to become running mate.

She however, revealed that the recent meetings she has had with a number of presidential aspirants involved talks of national unity and development.

She stated last week that she was going to listen to what the electorate will tell her and that is the political direction she will take.

Waiguru maintained that she does not want to fall victim of being in the wrong political vehicle in 2022.
