ODM leader Raila Odinga on Thursday September 30, held a meeting with the Mt Kenya region members of parliament in what looked like a move to increase his odds of seeking their support in the upcoming elections.
The meeting at the Nairobi Serena hotel comes barely a week after Raila went on a three day tour with the help of some Governors from the region to sell his political agenda in the region, a move that made him meet the Mt Kenya Foundation billionaires and businessmen.
The breakfast meeting was attended by leaders amongst them Amos Kimunya, Kanini Kega, Limuru MP Peter Mwathi, Muranga Women Rep Sabina Chege, former MP Dennis Waweru among others.
“Joined PM Raila Odinga for a breakfast meeting with colleague MPs from Mt. Kenya region. Our platform of national unity, lasting stability for rapid development belong to all patriotic leaders and citizens across our nation,” Junet Mohammed tweeted.
Taking to his twitter account ,Odinga hinted support from the leaders saying that they are moving forward together. “We are coming together. Moving forward together,” the tweet read.
Addressing the press after the meeting, Raila clarified that he was looking for partners in the vote rich region and not followers.
“We are committed to fighting poverty so that we can raise our people to prosperity, we are committed to ensuring that our children get proper education,” Raila said.
Matters discussed in the meeting as Raila revealed are of mutual interest including the 2022 polls.
“PL Raila Odinga this morning held a consultative meeting with members of the Mt. Kenya Parliamentary Group at Serena Hotel. The leaders discussed matters of mutual interest not limited to the 2022 politics,” part of the statement by ODM read.
