It’s sad that CS Linturi is still in office – Lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi

Prominent lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi has expressed his disappointment at the outcome of the impeachment motion against Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi.

Ahmednsair in a post on his verified X handle on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, said he feels for the opposition who did not manage to convince their Kenya Kwanza counterpart to kick out Linturi.

He noted that it was said the CS was still in office, despite the allegations he was facing over the fake fertilizer scam.

Bumula MP Jack Wamboka had filed the impeachment motion against the CS. But an 11-member team voted to save him.

7 out of the 11 members rejected allegations against the CS – all of whom are allied to the Kenya Kwanza coalition.

However, there have been claims from the opposition that some of the legislators were bribed to vote in favour of the embattled CS.

“My apologies to the minority of the select committee and especially to Hon Madam Catherine Amanyo who got in touch with me severally on the matter,” Ahmednassir said in part of the post.

“Second it was obvious that huge sums of bribes were offered. Some took while others like Ms Amanyo refused,” he added.

Amanyo had ealier in the day claimed that she was offered money by two people.

According to the legislator, the first person offered her Ksh2 million and said since the discussions had become heated, he would increase the amount to Ksh3 million.

“The second person asked me to name my price. These things are there. Let’s not pretend and act holy and say people are saying their own things,” she added.

Linturi was facing impeachment for his role in the fake fertilizer scam. The fertilizer was sold to farmers under the fertilizer subsidy program.

But when he appeared before the committee, the CS said he had no role in the procurement of the subsidy program.

Already top National Cereals and Produce Board officials have been arrested and charged over the scandal.
