Khalwale hits out at Wetangula, Mudavadi for sidelining Kakamega

By Patricia Mollyne Mataga

Kakamega Senator Dr Boni Khalwale has hit out at two senior Western Kenya politicians – Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula.

Khalwale who is also the Senate majority whip claims the two had sidelined Kakamega county.

In a lengthy post on his X handle, the veteran politician further claimed there is an attempt to move the defacto western Kenya headquarters from Kakamega town to Bungoma.

The attempt, Khalwale claims, relates to a recent push by leaders from Bungoma to have the Matulu airstrip elevated.

The government renovated the airstrip ahead of the recently held Madaraka Day celebrations.

During the event held at Masinde Muliro Stadium in Kanduyi, President William Ruto pledged to make the airport an airport.

Ruto’s promise was seen as a blow to Kakamega’s bid to have an airport. But Khalwale insists he will keep pushing for the facility.

“I stand for what our forefathers saw, and hope to further this vision with an international airport at Kakamega, and its elevation to a city,” Khalwale said.

He also noted that they happily stepped but to allow Mudavadi and Wetangula less them despite initially being in the opposing side when they were pushing for Ruto’s candidacy.

The two only joined Ruto’s camp months to the general elections.Khalwale now warns that Kakamega was closely watching their actions.

“We fought hard for H.E.@WilliamsRuto to be accepted by our people while u were whining and dining with the handshakers,” he said.

“When u joined us, we happily took a step back for u and Musalia Mudavadi to lead us in government. But alas, none of u pushes for the agenda of Kakamega. Our people are watching.

“The Senator was responding to a recent meeting in which the National Assembly Speaker hosted MCAs from Kakamega County.”
