Kindiki speaks on why Ruto’s administration has not done much

By Peter Ochieng

President William Ruto will in September mark two years in office, having succeeded Uhuru Kenyatta after the 2022 general elections.

During campaigns ahead of the polls, Ruto promised far reaching economic reforms in the country aimed at improving the lives of Kenyans. However, that has not been witnessed in his nearly two years in office.

Speaking in Chuka town, Tharaka Nithi County on Wednesday, Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Interior Kithure Kindiki said the Kenya Kwanza government has not been able to do much for nearly two years, because of debt and other issues it had to fix.

Kindiki said Ruto’s administration is now on course to fulfilling its major campaign promise. “The first two years we have not been able to do much. The government could not do much because we are paying debts and stabilising the economy,” stated the CS.

“But now going forward, you are going to see the President, ministers and Principal Secretaries (PSs) here. They will not just be coming to visit but to launch, commission and bring the various projects that we are now rolling out from this financial year.”

He spoke during the launch of the Fourth Medium Term Plan (MTP-IV) 2023-2027 in Chuka. It is the final 5 Year Plan under the Kenya Vision 2030.

The CS said the Kenya Kwanza Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) is aligned to the Kenya Vision 2030 Plan, aimed at the transformation of Kenya’s economy, politics and social affairs to turn Kenya into a newly industrialising middle-income Country by the year 2030.

“During the MPTV-IV period ending in 2027, the government is investing in agricultural production, value addition, manufacturing, healthcare, education, the digital and creative economy to create wealth and shared prosperity for all citizens without distinction,” he noted.

In Tharaka Nithi County, he said the government is scaling up the building of roads, water reservoirs and other amenities specified in the MTP-IV as supplemented by the County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP).
