The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has called for thorough investigation into the threats and harassment against Osinde Obare, a Standard Group journalist based in Trans Nzoia County
In a press statement sent to newsrooms, MCK Chief Executive Officer and Secretary to the Council David Omwoyo said the Council has written to the Inspector General of Police (IG), calling for thorough investigation into the threat, calling for those involved to be arrested.
Omwoyo said Mr. Obare (MCK012009) while covering a burial ceremony in Goseta, Uasin Gishu County, on 22 March 2024, documented a clash between the followers of two political leaders and since the incident, the journalist has faced a series of threats, including anonymous phone calls and attempted break-ins at his residence.
“The Council urges the office of the IG to assure Mr. Obare of his security as investigations continue,” said Omwoyo.
