MP Gachagua Skips Court Hearing in Former Nyeri Governor’s Death Inquest

Mathira Member of Parliament Rigathi Gachagua today, September 23, 2021, skipped court after being summoned to appear before Nyeri Principle Magistrate ,Wendy Kagendo.

The lawmaker was scheduled to answer questions related to the death of the former Governor of Nyeri Wahome Gakuru who died in a tragic road accident in 2017.

Gachagua was set to appear in court alongside incumbent Nyeri Governor, Mutahi Kahiga who also failed to appear justice Kagendo.

According to reports, the two leaders said they did not receive court orders requesting them to appear before the court.

Gachagua became a party of interest in the case after the court established that before the governors demise, he had requested for an audit of funds which he had been accused of misappropriation during the late Governor Nderitu Gachagua’s reign.

However, Governor Mutahi found himself on the list of suspects because according to Gakuru’s family lawyer Mary Weru he was a direct beneficiary to his death.

Magistrate Kagendo has given the duo one month to prepare and file statements regarding the matter.

Four police officers who attended to the scene of the late governor’s death appeared in court and filed their statements of inquest. They appealed to the court to have the orders seeking to have them apprehended quashed arguing that they obeyed summons.

The four are Sergent John Wanami, Sergent Martin Simiyu, Corporal Francis Kisavi, and Police Constable John Kivuva.
