Nottingham Forest have been given a 4-point deduction by independent panel for breach of Premier League profitability & sustainability rules on Monday .

They drop into relegation zone below Luton Town with 21 points.

An official announcement from the Premier League is expected on Monday, with Forest likely to appeal sanction.

Under financial rules, clubs in the top division are allowed to lose £105 million (€122m) over three years, although in Forest’s case, this is limited to £61m (€71m) because they spent two of the last three years in the Championship.

The club’s spending has been well-documented since they arrived in England’s top flight, signing a staggering 42 players across four transfer windows.

They now face an uphill battle to stay in the league, with nine games remaining until the end of the campaign – starting with a clash against fellow strugglers Crystal Palace on March 30th.

Last year, Everton were hit with a 10-point deduction over breach if Financial Fair Play Rules but appealed the decision.

An official club statement bu Nottingham is expected on Monday to raise their views on the dedication.
