Nominated Member of Parliament (MP) Sabina Chege has taken upon herself to pray for unity of purpose, between President William Ruto and his deputy, Rigathi Gachagua.
Still, she feels her prayers may not be enough to ensure the centre between the two leaders continues to hold, with reports pointing to a possible fallout ahead of the 2027 general polls.
That is why she is asking Kenyans to join her in prayers, in a bid to ensure that Ruto and the second in command continue working together.
“My prayer as a woman who has been in politics for sometime is that let us pray for the president and his deputy so that the bond continues to hold,” Chege said during a women empowerment forum in Samburu County on Friday.
“We pray that Satan should not get a way into your relationship, we have supported you and we want to support you so that Kenya moves forward,” added the former Murang’a County Women Representative.
She urged Kenyans to remain united behind the two leaders, and resist any attempts to divide them.
“We are behind you (the president and his deputy) so that when I come here in Samburu I feel at home, let us leave in harmony.”
Ruto and Gachagua have in the past few days appeared to read from different in public, akin to what used to happen during retired President Uhuru Kenyatta’s time in office. Ruto was the Deputy President during Uhuru’s time in office.
On Thursday, Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo claimed that the issue of ODM leader Raila Odinga’s perceived help from the government to secure the Africa Union Commission (AUC) chairman position has caused divisions in the executive arm of the government.
Maanzo claimed the issue has caused anger to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and his team, adding that he might not be chosen as the Presidential running mate come 2027.
“The perception that the government is helping Raila in his AUC chairmanship has annoyed DP Gachagua and some of his people. The President has already given notice that his running mate could be a woman,” he said while appearing on Citizen TV.
Before Ruto settled on Gachagua as his running mate in 2022, Kithure Kindiki (CS for Interior) was the front runner.
