Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi has downplayed reports doing rounds on social media claiming he has failed to pay a Ksh7.8 million soft loan he received from a friend.
The ODM legislator has since linked the claims to efforts by unnamed people to derail his liberation bid.
In a statement on his verified X handle on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, the youthful MP said he has no unpaid loan to anyone at the moment.
Controversial blogger Cyprian Nyakundi had shared on his social media pages that the MP was loaned the money by IGAD director Josephat Onyari but has not paid to promting a court case.
According to Nyakundi, the loan was to bolster Amisi’s 2022 re-election bid and was to be paid once the secured the seat.
However, the legislator has laughed off the allegations.
“This is stupidity of the highest order. Between me and this miserable emaciated old man, who looks like can loan the other. Or is IMF using individuals to loan to nations? Very funny,” Amisi said in part of the post while responding to Nyakundi.
“If you think using cartels masquerading as a diplomat can silence my resolve for liberation, you are into a big shock. The revolution has just begun. Absolutely nothing will stop it,” he added.
The Saboti MP has been among legislators who have openly criticized how the current administration has been running the country.
He insists there is a need for a liberation.
But a few months ago, Amisi claimed he was being trailed by police officers over his stand against the government.
At some point, ODM officials filed a report with the police, claiming the MP’s life was in danger.
“It has been reported to the relevant authority that my life is in danger, including this morning. I have given all the details and information necessary for action to be taken,” the MP said in a post dated January 23, 2024.
“I am now seeking permission to annihilate anyone who follows me and/or with a hidden agenda of an attempt at my life,” he added.
