Hundreds of motorists were on Friday evening forced to spend more hours on the road following a traffic snarl up along the Nairobi-Naivasha highway.

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has earlier in the day cautioned of traffic building up.

In an update, the agency said the snarl up was due to an incident which was reported between Kijabe and Solo Mjinga areas.

“KeNHA alerts motorists of a traffic snarl up between Kijabe and Soko Mjinga along the Nairobi – Nakuru Highway due to an incident,” it said while advising motorists to avoid overlapping and consider diverting to the Naivasha – Mai Mahiu road for smoother travel.

“The Authority contractor and traffic marshals are on site to restore traffic flow,” it added.

But a few hours later, KeNHA send out another alert indicating that the situation had worsened. This was mainly due to motorists failing to adhere to traffic laws by overlapping.

It also advised motorists planning to use the same route to delay their journey or use an alternative route.

“The Kenya National Highways Authority reports that the traffic situation between Kijabe and Soko Mjinga along the Nairobi – Nakuru Highway is worsening due to overlapping,” KeNHA said.

“Motorists are advised to avoid overlapping and those planning to travel are advised to delay their journey or use the aforementioned alternative routes,” it added.

The agency has not issued an update on whether the situation had been resolved in not.
