Two men apprehended during the ongoing countrywide crackdown on illicit alcoholic drinks in possession of 6.5 litres of changaa have been fined a total of Sh 6000 in default serving one-month imprisonment each by a Kabarnet court.
Julius Egal and Denis Ledida were charged that on March 12, 2024, at around 1 am at Makaburini village in Marigat location Baringo South constituency, Baringo county, was found in possession of alcoholic drinks contrary to section 27 (1) (b) as read with section 27 (4) of the alcoholic drinks control Act No.4 of 201 Egal was found in possession of 3.5 litres in four transparent plastic containers of one litre each while Ledida had 3 litres in two transparent plastic containers.
When arraigned before Senior Principal Magistrate (SPM) Purity Koskey on Wednesday, the two suspects pleaded to the charges saying it was true they were caught possessing the changaa, a traditional drink.
“Your honour it is true that we had changaa but we are promising this court that we will not repeat it,” the duo pleaded.
SPM Koskey who convicted the accused on their plea of guilt ordered each of them to pay a fine of Sh 3000 or serve one-month imprisonment.
