Two police officers arrested for selling ammunitions to criminals

Two more suspects have been arrested in relation to a recent recovery of ammunitions in Laikipia County.

The National Police Service last week said its officers had arrested two people who were found with 2,658 ammunitions.

Police revealed the Identity of the two we Josphat Karanja and his wife Teresa Wairimu.

On Monday, a statement by the Inspector General Japhet Koome said two more suspects were in police custody.

The two police officers – Chief Inspector Joel Warui and Police Constable Martin Murimi were linked to the recovered ammunition.Murimi is from Anti-Stock Theft Unit and was based at Sondu Camp.

According to the police boss, the two are suspected to be behind the sell of the ammunitions to the criminals.

“The officers were arraigned before court today in a miscellaneous application seeking custody of the accused persons for a period of 4 days which was granted,” IG Koome said in the statement.

All the four suspects are now expected to appear before Kibera Law Courts on Friday, April 26, 2024.

“The officers remain suspended from the National Police Service with immediate effect,” Koome said.

Meanwhile, the National Police Service has cautioned members of the public kic to avoid engaging in unauthorized purchase, possession, manufacture and sale of firearms and ammunitions.

Instead, the service has asked that they report such criminal activities to the nearest police strike of through their till free numbers 999, 911, 112 or DCI’s 0800722203.

“In addition, we wish to assure the public that stern action will be taken against any officer involved in such unethical conduct regardless of rank,” the police IG said.

He also reiterated the National Police Service’s commitment to strive for highest standards of professionalism.
