The Kenya Kwanza Alliance affiliated party, United Democratic Movement members in Ugunja Constituency on Saturday left the party, joining its main political rival, the Orange Democratic Movement.

Speaking at the ODM Party offices in Sidindi town, the defectors, led by Jacob Odhiambo Odipo and Henry Oluoch said they were forced to leave the ruling party on realization that it was full of empty promises.

They said that they were tired of persistent unfulfilled promises by the top party officials whom, they said, were only eloquent in public speech but failed to actualize their promises hence giving them a hard time engaging with the people at the grassroots.

Addressing the occasion, ODM Party’s Ugunja Constituency youth leader Mr. Sylvester Owino said the branch was committed to ensuring that all those who ditched the party for one reason or the other are brought back ahead of the ODM polls.

Owino said that Ugunja ODM branch has registered 2,000 new members, bringing to a total of 32,800 party members.

Ugunja ODM branch chairman Mr. Jerim Okoth said the party welcomed all Kenyans adding that their doors are open to everyone who would want to become a member.

Mr. Okoth said that ODM, under the leadership of former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga was still the party to beat both in Nyanza and countrywide.
