Uhuru to lead Mt. Kenya’s Haki coalition

Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta has been fronted as the leader of a new coalition that has been formed by a section of Mt. Kenya leaders.

During the Limuru III meeting in Kiambu County on Friday, the leaders led by Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua and embattled Jubilee party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni announced the formation of Haki coalition to push for Mt. Kenya’s interests and unity of purpose.


The new coalition, they said will be led by Uhuru Kenyatta who retired in 2022 after serving for two terms, from 2013 to 2022.


Uhuru, the leaders maintained remains Central Kenya’s spokesman and political kingpin, under the same breadth, calling out Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for failing UK protect the region’s interests.


The Deputy President is the senior most politician from the region in the Kenya Kwanza administration.


They settled on five resolutions. They are: working towards uniting the region, pursuing the region’s interest through all means, allocation of national resources guided by one man one vote one shilling policy, address issues that negatively affect the people and to unite under one umbrella movement.


However, a host of leaders from the gave the meeting a wide birth.


Earlier, Githunguri Member of Parliament (MP) Gathoni Wamuchomba vowed to step up her fight for the interest of residents of Mt. Kenya region.


Wamuchomba said former President Uhuru Kenyatta requested her not to relent in the fight for residents of Mt. Kenya.


Ahead of the 2022 general elections, the legislature was among Central Kenya leaders who backed William Ruto’s presidential bid, while the retired President supported Azimio leader, Raila Odinga.


She said she has since made peace with the former Head of State, who urged her not to relent in the fight for the people of Mt. Kenya.


“I met Uhuru Kenyatta and sought forgiveness and he requested me to continue fighting for the interest of the region,” said the MP.


The vocal legislature seemingly fell out with Ruto’s administration, after voting against the Finance Bill, 2023, despite being elected on the ruling United Democtratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket.
