Kenyans and opposition leaders have hit out at the government following reports of the abduction of former Nandi Hills Member of Parliament Alfred Keter.

Keter was allegedly abducted by hooded individuals believed to be police officers in Lavingtone, Nairobi on Sunday.

At the time of the incident, he was from church in company of his wife and children.

CCTV footage of the incident doing rounds on social media shows the men forcing the former MP out of his car as children wailed.

The video has attracted widespread condemnation from social media users, among them Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Canadian-based Kenyan lawyer Miguna Miguna.

Miguna in a post on his X handle warned that the incident might further fuel the push for a change in leadership an agenda that the Kenyan youths have been pushing.

“This is what impunity looks like. William Ruto is trembling and becoming desperate. This is proof that Kenyans must remove him and his criminal regime from power. He cannot change,” the lawyer said.

Similar sentiments were shared by Senator Sifuna. In a post on his X handle the ODM Secretary General instead on the need for the government to act within legal provisions.

“This her is why #RutoMustGo. Let no one lie to you, there will be no ‘change of heart’ for this regime. We cannot live like this. Kenya must remain a constitutional democracy,” Sifuna said.

The condemnation of the abduction have interestingly also been from some of the government officials.

Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary in a post on his verified X handle said procedures must always be following when effecting any arrest.

“There is a procedure for effecting an arrest. This is not one of them. We must resist the temptation to adopt extra legal means even in pursuit of legitimate objectives,” the PS said.

This is the latest of the series of abductions that have been witnessed in the country since the Gen Z-Led protests started.

The government has already bowed to their pressure and withdrawn the 2024 Finance Bill.

It has also initiated a process that will enable an engagement with the youth.

But despite the latest efforts by the government, a sectipn of youths insist the protests will go on.Another round is scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday this week.
