The supremacy battles within the Mount Kenya region continue to witness twists and turns.
It all started when a section of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s allies accused young leaders in the region of undermining the second in command ahead of the 2027 general election.
But Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru came out to dismiss the claim, instead asking the DP to allow young as well as women leaders to also dream big.
The sentiments did not go down well with some of the leaders who have now come out to respond to it.
Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba in a post on her social media pages told off the Council of Governors chairperson.
Wamuchomba, a rebel UDA legislator claimed Waiguru has no moral authority to lecture the Mount Kenya leaders.
She noted that the county boss has not made use of her position to champion the well-being of the Mount Kenya region.
“Dear Governor @AnneWaiguru, with much respect stop lecturing us on who should speak about what in Mt. Kenya Region,” the MP said
“You are the Chair of the Council of Governors sitting pretty as we struggle with the rising economic stress, closing businesses, alcoholism and neglect of projects by Kenya Kwanza regime which you are now defending online,” she added.
According to Wamuchomba, the CoG chairperson must focus on helping the region address some of the challenges it is facing before starting to lecture other leaders.
She named the failure of coffee farmers to get coffee cherry funds and irregular sackings in the county as some of the issues Waiguri should address.
Wamuchomba also listed many stalled projects in the region that need to be pushed by leaders holding high offices.
“What happened to Kenol-Marua Road completion? What happened to Mau mau roads completion? What happened to Ruiru 2 dam construction?” she said.
“Now that you are in USA with the presidential jet enjoy the ride quietly but ask those wazungu to give you money to complete our projects nasio LOANS! And by the way here at home we are speaking the language of One Man One Shilling while you are away,” she added.
The region is now perceived to be divided into three – one faction allied to the DP, another loyal to President Ruto and a third one that still recognizes former President Uhuru Kenyatta as their leader.
DP Gachagua on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, asked Uhuru to work with him for the unity of the vote-rich region.
