Some 2320 bags of fertilisers were flagged by farmers as fake as it was found to contain organic compost, rocks and soil, County Commissioner Jack Obuo has said.

Mr Obuo said samples of the suspicious fertiliser in 50kg bags have been submitted to the Kenya Bureau of Standards who are yet to provide results.

The official said the 2320 bags labelled as crop growing fertiliser KEL Green NPK 10.26.20 were all of that brand that had been supplied to the Embu NCPB depot and had been sold out to farmers by the time the farmers brought feedback that they didn’t trust its quality and genuineness.

Mr Obuo, who had led the County Security and Intelligence Committee on a fact-finding tour of the Embu Depot Tuesday said some 13630 bags of planting and top dressing fertilisers had been received by the previous day and only the 2320 of the Kel Green had been flagged.

He said it was incorrect to label all the fertiliser brands at the store as fake and urged farmers to continue buying the other brands even as they wait for the results of the samples NCPB have submitted to KEBS.
