The Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) has ordered former Murang’a governor Mwangi wa Iria and his wife to present themselves for statement recording in relations to Ksh140 million graft allegations.
EACC in a statement on Monday said Wa Iria and his wife Jane Waigwa among several others are set to be charged with corruption and abuse of office.
The matter relates to a tender the commission says was awarded by the County Government of Murang’a to Top Image Media Consultancy Limited during the 2014/2015 and 2015/2016 financial year.
According to EACC, they received a complaint in regard to the tender over allegations of procurement irregularities and conflict of interest.
“Upon conclusion of the investigations, EACC submitted the investigation report to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) who upon independent review concurred with the commission’s recommendations to charge the following officers,” read part of the statement.
Others facing similar charges include former county secretary Patrick Militia and David Maina who is listed as one of the directors of Top Image Media Consultancy Limited.
Wa Iria’s personal assistant is also among those being sought by the commission to face the graft charges alongside Solomon Kimani of Value View Limited.
“The commission hereby directs all the above named persons to report to EACC headquarters located at the integrity centre building or the nearest EACC regional office Tuesday, 16th April 2024, 8.00 am without fail,” the commission’s deputy Chief Executive Officer Abdi Mohamud said in the statement.
Wa Iria served as Murang’a Governor for two terms from 2013.
In 2022, he expressed interest at vying for the Presidency on his Usawa Kwa Wote Party but was not cleared by IEBC.
He is currently allowed to the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition.
