Govt Extends Nationwide Curfew

Health CS Mutahi Kagwe has announced the extension of the nation wide dawn to dusk curfew for a further 30 days. He made the announcement on Monday, October 4, 2021 at the the Media Council of Kenya launch of Covid-19 information portal.

The Health CS has also stated that the ban for political gatherings has also been extended for another 30 days.

Kagwe reiterated that the government would ensure that many Kenyans are vaccinated for Covid-19 during the said period. He noted that the government has posted a positive outlook on the infection rate which stands at 2.7 per cent.

He called upon members of the public to adhere to the set directives so as to ensure mitigation of the pandemic.

The CS noted that the government has put in place multiple measures to prevent and curb further spread of the virus, as it looks to lower the positivity rate in the country.

Kagwe’s directive comes at a time when Kenyans have asked the government to ease the restrictions which have seen a section of them lose jobs.

Members of the business community have since alleged that the curfew has resulted in a decline of profits over the past one year.

In a recent address, President Uhuru Kenyatta reiterated that the safety guidelines issued by the government are meant to ensure proper mitigation of the pandemic, as the world’s economy opens up.
