Several high-profile graft cases are scheduled for hearing in anti-corruption courts this week.

EACC in an update on their social media pages listed some of the cases, which involve among others four former governors and former MPs.

The former governors who will be appearing in court this week include Okoth Obado (Migori), Dr Evans Kidero (Nairobi), Ferdinand Waititu (Kiambu) and former Busia Governor Sospeter Ojamong.

“Embakasi North MP James Mwangi Gakuya, former Migori Governor Okoth Obado and his children, former Nairobi Governor Dr Evans Kidero, former Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong, and former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu are among notable corruption suspects whose cases are coming up in court this week for prosecution and/or recovery of the stolen public funds,” the anti-graft agency said in a post on its official X handle.

Okoth will be in court on Tuesday for a hearing of a case in which he is accused of abuse of office, conspiracy to commit an economic crime and money laundering alongside his children in a Ksh 73.4 million case.

Kidero on the other hand will also be at the Milimani Law Courts on Tuesday for the case in which EACC is seeking to recover Ksh 58 million from him.

The former Busia governor is facing a Ksh 8 million case related to the irregular procurement of a solid waste management feasibility project from Madam R Enterprises.

The case is scheduled for a hearing on Wednesday, March 20, 2024.

Waititu, on the other hand, is facing charges related to conflict of interest, abuse of office and dealing with suspected property.

The case relates to the former governor’s acquisition of private interest in the Ksh25.6 million paid to Testimony Enterprises Limited. It is for contracts awarded during Waititu’s tenure as Kiambu governor.
