Manufacturing firms are set to benefit from the new nighttime electricity tariff effect from May 1 as introduced by President William Ruto.

The head of state made the announcement as he attended the Official opening of Nextgen Packaging Kenya EPZ Limited and tour of Hela Intimates EPZ Limited in Machakos County on Tuesday.

The move will see manufacturing costs cut by 50pc and removing the need for full daytime cap.

The president noted that investments in textile manufacturing firms will provide employment for more than 400,000 Kenyans.

“Our strategic interventions in the textile and apparels sub-sector have provided Kenya with a competitive advantage, attracting investors and growing the manufacturing base.

This has not only led to increased exports, but also expanded job opportunities for factory workers and over 40,000 cotton farmers.”The president noted.

President Ruto further acknowledged a recent $11 million partnership between Kenya and the United States which he says will boost the textile and apparels sub-sector to a new level.

The head of State was accompanied by Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti, Cooperatives PS Juma Mukhwana, US Ambassador to Kenya Meg Whitman amongst other leaders.
