National Rainbow Coalition (Narc) Leader Martha Karua has been unanimously elected as the Mount Kenya spokesperson by a section of politicians from the region.
The leaders who were drawn from various counties in Central Kenya, convened in Naivasha, Nakuru County on Monday, September 20, 2021, where they discussed issues affecting the region.
Leaders in attendance included Gatundu Member of Parliament Moses Kuria, former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo, among others.
“I want to say this for avoidance of doubt, that this forum has today, unanimously choses Martha Karua to be our official spokesperson on interim basis,” Kuria stated.
While addressing members of the press, Karua stated that the forum will exist beyond August 2022, with an intent to constantly advocate for the interests of the people of Mount Kenya.
The leaders also stated that they will work on a blueprint that will be presented to presidential candidates along with state agencies, detailing the aspirations of members of the public from Central Kenya.
“It will be presented not only to presidential candidates but also to other agencies that may have a bearing; security, revenue sharing.
“This is beyond the presidential race, it is about permanent community of interest and permanent issues that need to be addressed,” Karua stated.
Kabogo reiterated Karua’s sentiments, adding that the meetings between leaders from the Mt Kenya region did not constitute any hidden agendas or ulterior motives.
The meeting comes after Karua, Kuria and The Service Party (TSP) leader Mwangi Kiunjuri held a meeting where they agreed to work together for the benefit of the region despite their political loyalties.
They announced that a meeting would be held in Limuru before the end of the year to come up with a way forward for the region in the race to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022.
